The Northern Rivers is the first region in Australia to launch a community gardening joint venture with Landshare Australia.

Community concern for ‘food miles’, mounting food prices and a desire to get back to old fashioned flavour have combined to generate an increase in people wanting to grow their own fruit and vegetables.

But as the food movement grows, backyards in Australia are getting smaller leaving thousands of would-be revolutionaries yearning for a piece of dirt on which to grow. That’s where Landshare Australia comes in.  The team at Landshare Australia is providing a social networking service that introduces people with spare land to others wanting to grow vegetables, but with nowhere to do it.

Northern Rivers community members can register their interest – as landowners, gardeners and helpers by heading to the website

Landshare Australia is one of many Northern Rivers Food Links funded Sustainable Agriculture projects.
